Jerry Grantges' Obituary
Jerry Grantges passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2021 peacefully at home from natural causes. He would have been 85 years old in May.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Agnes and Madison Grantges.
Jerry was the oldest of five children and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. His siblings are Donald Grantges, Jimmy Grantges, Louis Grantges and Donna Caraher. After high school he attended North Texas State University for two years studying to be a doctor. He then joined the United States Army where he served as military police and a certified dog trainer. He changed his major to business and spent the rest of his life in sales where he won numerous sales awards over the years. He was a devoted husband to Linda Hellen Grantges for nearly 50 years, a loving father to three children, Vicki Murphy-Gee, Craig Grantges and Alysia Shahady, and a step father to Deborah Souder. Jerry was a grandfather to six grandchildren Taylor Reid Murphy, Ryann Bailey Murphy, Madysen Lynn Shahady, Lainey Renee Shahady, Kiley Elizabeth Shahady and Ainsley Kate Shahady. He was a great grandpa to Isabelle Clair Murphy and Cecilia Reid Murphy.
He was passionate about his family, never wavered from his faith, and loved being outdoors in God’s country hunting and fishing. He loved hunting with his brothers and friends and he enjoyed listening to his Bible while watching and waiting in the deer blind. He always had an interest in cars which included not just selling to those in need and racing them in his early days.
Later in life, after retirement, Linda and Jerry enjoyed traveling in their motor home around the Western part of the United States. The longest trip was for two months to California to visit his beloved sister Donna Caraher, then up the coast line to Oregon following the Lewis and Clarke Expedition Trail. Jerry enjoyed the rich pioneering history and reliving reading every historical markerplaque along the way!
Jerry was always full of encouragement and positive actions and guidance to those around him. Two things he always said, “If it is to be, it is up to me” and when someone asks you how you are doing, “Better and better every day, in every way”. He got this strength from God’s word and through prayer. He believed in hard work and staying focused on his goals. Through prayer we can overcome anything to which we set our minds to.
Jerry lived a long, happy and fulfilling life and was cared for at home by his loving wife Linda.
He was ready to be at peace and rest with his Savior.
We will forever miss him. Until we meet again! May every day hereafter be better in every way.
Well done, good and faithful servant.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, their three children and spouses, as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren and his brothers and sister.
The service will take place at:
