Jerry Don Johnson's Obituary
Jerry Don Johnson passed away on January 4, 2024, following a battle with Alzheimer’s. Jerry was born on November 7, 1945, in Houston, Texas, and was raised in Texas City, Texas by Waldo and Mary Elizabeth Johnson.
Jerry’s childhood was filled with baseball, westerns and a band of lifelong friends. Following his graduation from Texas City High School in 1964, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his BA in 1968 and his JD in 1971.
While at The University, he met his future wife, Diane Dickson. They were married at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas, on August 18, 1967. Following law school, Jerry and Diane moved to her hometown of Dallas where he began his nearly 50 year distinguished legal career, specializing in commercial real estate.
Jerry was a Lifetime Longhorn, attending the 2006 Championship at the Rose Bowl where his Horns beat USC, a memory he never lost. He loved attending Rangers games with his family, while cheering Arsenal FC and his Texas City Stingarees from afar. He remained forever curious, and he never stopped learning. He loved Tex-Mex, New Mexico trips, questionable puns, and the arts. Above all, Jerry loved spending time with family and friends and making others laugh with his quick wit and zany humor.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Diane; daughters Ashley Jeffers (Jamie) and Jessica Bannon (Brian); son Matthew Johnson; grandchildren Brooks Jeffers, Finn Jeffers and Miriel Bannon; sister-in-law Jeanie Koenig; brother-in-law Fred Koenig; niece Stacy Sims (Steve); grandniece Savannah Sims; and grandnephew Foster Sims.
A memorial service to celebrate Jerry’s life will be held at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas on January 16th at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Cure Alzheimer’s Fund and Journey Ministry at HPUMC.
