Jerry Preston Leonard's Obituary
Jerry Preston Leonard born to Preston and Viola Leonard, on June 13, 1945, has gone home to be with his Lord on July 16, 2019. Jerry was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, husband and friend to many. While on this earth, Jerry’s life revolved around family and friends. He married his beloved wife, Karen Ann Matthews, on June 13, 1983. Their blended family included two girls: Dawn Renae Matthews and Stephanie Diana Leonard; two grandchildren, Thomas Monroe Post, Jr. and Renae Leigh Post; and three great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Thomas III and Noah Post. He cherished time spent with them all. Jerry and Karen had a strong bond and a loving marriage for 35 years, until sadly, Karen passed away on December 8, 2018, after the death of their daughter, Dawn, on February 13 of the same year.Beyond family and friends, Jerry loved cars. Which was natural, after growing up around his Dad’s service station for years. Growing up in the small towns of Goodlett and Quanah, Texas, he always had one of the fastest hotrods in town. (Due in large part, I’m sure, to his Dad’s help.) He was also a sports fan. Mostly, a Dallas Cowboy fan, until his grandson turned out to be a natural at baseball. After that, baseball quickly rose in the ranks of sports to watch. He wore several hats during his working years, from stock broker, to warehouse and fleet manager at Sysco Foods, to service station owner/franchisee. He even spent a short time in his later years working as Courtesy Patrol in the DFW area. This fit him so well, because it involved cars, being out and about driving, and helping people.Jerry spent the last years of his life taking care of his beloved wife, Karen. He fought the good fight, but never really recovered after her death. He will be missed so much here on this earth, but knowing they have been reunited is a great comfort.Jerry is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Winnie and Tommy Lane; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Steve Boughnou; grandchildren, Thomas Post Jr. and wife Misty, and Renae Post; and great grandchildren Brooklynn, Thomas III and Noah, whom he loved so much.Jerry’s final resting place will be Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, Texas.
