Jerry Lynn Mayes' Obituary
Jerry Lynn Mayes, age 80, passed away on July 13th 2019. Jerry was born an only child on May 14, 1939 in Dallas, Texas. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Claude and Dovie Mayes.Jerry was in the air force, attended SMU and graduated Dallas Art Academy.In 1980 Jerry met Donna Smith and they were married 5 years later. Last year, Jerry and Donna celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary.Jerry worked as the Art Director at Xerox in Dallas, TX. His past work experiences were at Texas Instruments and Chance Vault in design also creating logos for the Air Force.Jerry was an amazing artist, recognized for years at numerous film festivals in audio/visual, animation and motion pictures. His family takes comfort in beautiful artwork displayed around their Frisco home. He was a huge collector of anything and everything especially cars! Much of his retirement was filled with writing his novel which unfortunately was never completed.Jerry was also a member of Amvets; attending meetings and helping in every aspect available. Jerry and Donna would travel to the National Amvet conventions in the US each year. During his membership Jerry was asked to create a program for the homeless in Dallas. He spent several years implementing a program with Dallas officials supported by the Amvet program.Following his parent’s passion for clocks, Jerry had a large collection of his own. He always had hobbies entertaining himself after retirement such as making walking canes, leaving behind over 50 beautiful canes, lamps, even flower arranging. Being an artist, he saw beauty in things others may have missed.Above all, Jerry was a new Christian. He would read his Bible every night before going to bed. One of his paintings will be displayed during his service at Restland Funeral Home. The painting portrays Jesus carrying the Rugged Cross. Once the service has ended the painting will be donated to Blanton Chapel in Trenton TX. Blanton Chapel was contracted and built by his grandparents many years ago and has always been close to Jerry’s heart.Survived by spouse Donna K. Mayes, children Davina Jo Davis and Alicia Lyne Duffy (and husband, Chris). Grandchildren: Preston Crumpton, Christopher Duffy, Corporal Hunter Greenlaw (and wife, Megan), Connor Greenlaw, Jacob Duffy and Chloe Duffy. Aunt Dorothy Latimar and cousin Joe Latimar.Jerry thank you for being part of our lives. We are all going to miss you dearly!
