Dr. Jerry McGrew, age 88, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 21, 2022 in Plano, Texas. Jerry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and was a shining light to all who knew him. Read Obituary
my left eye still works. my left brow had been pushed off my face and
my eye was not where it should be. Needed muscles sewed back on and to be reinserted.
He did it.
in 1970 i had hit my steering wheel on Coit Road (2 lanes with deep ditches then)
he came to the little hospital on spring valley and worked on me from 2 am to 8 am...
probably 300 stitches....I was driving in 4 days.....

I was so saddened to learn of Jerry's passing and also about Virginia. They were two of our favorites. We started out with the YMCA football games, with Virginia down on the sidelines getting the statistics for me and Jerry, Cindy and I up in the stands, wrapped in blankets trying to keep warm. Virginia and I went to exercise class together out at the Hillcrest Rec Center and remember going caroling in the neighborhood with Jerry on the violin and Virginia toting that big bass. We did enjoy the many jokes. I was so thrilled when Jerry called to tell me that there were finally glasses frames that my boys couldn't break easily. Not only did we receive his excellent eye care, basically saved Suzanne's sight, but loved his paintings. I have two McGrew's that I cherish. We enjoyed all of the McGrew family. Special memories! I won't share the details of why Jerry made a bandage for my head out of a used handkerchief.
Jerry's sq dance club used to go on mystery bus trips--this particular year we were going to northern Arkansas. We stopped near Ft. Smith for a break & Jerry, in chatting with the bus driver, learned he was having trouble seeing. Within 30 minutes Jerry had diagnosed a detached retina, coordinated a replacement driver & transportation back to Dallas for our driver, & arranged for surgery the next morning in Dallas. We then resumed our trip as if nothing had happened.
The driver was the grandfather of one of TCU's current star quarterbacks.
