Jerry Charles Parker's Obituary
PARKER, JERRY CHARLES of Palestine, TX, was born June 13, 1939 in Dike, Texas and passed away on August 9, 2010. Survived by the love of his life for 57 years, Martha; his daughters, Frances Rogers and husband Rick, Lisa Knight and husband Lester; son, Gary Parker; nephew, Michael Coffee ( who he thought of as his son); eleven grandchildren, Amy Philachack, Kelli Sager and husband Chris , Bryan Knight and wife Shanda, Jason Rogers and wife Brandy, Jennifer Eyley and husband Travis, Channing Martin and husband Cole, Tyler Parker, Trenton Bennett, Blane, Holly and Trevor Coffee; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Max Philachack and Warner, Lindsay Knight, Landen Usher, Lucas Sager, Avery McCoy, Dakota Knight, Madison and Jayci Rogers, Alexis Ortega, Nathan Eyley, Lucas and Peyton Martin. Jerry started work at an early age and worked all of his adult life. He was a Glazier by trade and was a Journeyman Glazier by 1963. He retired to his loved “Ponderosa Place” in East Texas. He soon found out retirement was not for him and went back to work for his son as an estimator until his illness would no longer allow him to work. Jerry loved all aspects of his work-superintendant, glazier and estimator. Over the years he developed lasting friendships with the people he worked for and the ones that worked for him. He fought a good fight with cancer for close to a year. The cancer may have taken his life on earth, but not his soul. His body is now whole again, free of pain. He can walk, talk, hear, breathe, and soar with the eagles ( which he loved so much). God knew Jennifer Parker wanted her “best buddy” and we are sure they are swapping stories. Jerrys strength, independence, and work ethics is something we all admire. Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is a memory, they’ll live on in the heart. Jerry was a wonderful husband for 57 years, a terriffic dad, and an awesome grandpa! We will miss him more than words can say, but we will remember all the wonderful memories. Jerry rejoiced in family get togethers. As our hearts are broken, we take strength in knowing he is no longer suffering and will continue with his legacy of family get togethers. A light from the family is gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in the home, which can never be filled. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM on Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, August 13, 2010 at Restland Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
