Jerry Dean Stooksberry's Obituary
Jerry Dean Stooksberry, 64, of Dallas, TX, passed away on June 12, 2018. Jerry was born April 8, 1954 to Cecil Ray Stooksberry and Lillie Belle Dyer Stooksberry in Dallas, TX. Jerry graduated from North Mesquite High School in 1972 and then enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country. He was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service and befriended every dog on his route, even rescuing one pup in particular named Toby, who became his constant companion. Jerry was also a talented tile craftsman, as many homes and buildings in the Dallas area can attest to.Jerry is preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Belle Stooksberry; brother, Tim Stooksberry; and nephew, Brandon Rogers. He is survived by his father, Cecil Stooksberry of Dallas; brother Cecil Stooksberry, Jr. and his wife Kim of Rockwall, TX; sister Angie Stooksberry Rogers and her husband David of Richardson, TX; sister-In-Law Amy Wright Stooksberry; nieces, Blair Rogers McCurdy and her husband Alex of Cypress, TX, Courtney Stooksberry of Garland, TX and Jayme Murphy Cox and her husband Matt of Garland, TX; nephews, Connor Stooksberry of Garland, TX and Dylan Stooksberry of Sanford, N.C.Jerry was a beloved son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was a lovable, funny, happy-go-lucky guy with a heart of gold. He also had alcohol use disorder for much of his life, but continued to address this with grit and determination, with the help of Alcoholics Anonymous and a supportive community. He was a person in long term recovery and had periods of many years of continuous sobriety. He and his family were so proud this year after having a recurrence of alcohol use, he re-engaged in his recovery and never looked back. His recovery was one filled with determination, faithfulness, community, restored relationships, and service. His family was never more proud of him and he is an example of what happens in recovery. We rejoice that he is in the arms of his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and reunited with his mother, brother Tim, and nephew, Brandon.1 Peter 1:3-5 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth, into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil, or fade.
