Jerry Wayne Thompson's Obituary
Jerry Wayne Thompson, born August 7, 1939, passed away peacefully at home in Rockwall, Texas, on June 14, 2025, surrounded by his devoted children, Gina and Todd. A proud graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas, Jerry’s life was defined by his unshakable Christian faith, deep devotion to family, and lifelong love of sports.
From Little League to college ball, Jerry’s passion for baseball led him to play alongside his brother, Sonny, in high school before earning scholarships to Paris Junior College and Sam Houston State University. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserve, with two years of active duty aboard the USS Shangri-La out of Jacksonville, Florida. Following his service, Jerry built a successful career in sales and management with Humble Oil (Exxon), TD Industries, and Whip Corp.
Jerry was a beloved coach and mentor—generously sharing his time with youth and adult sports leagues, especially as he coached his son Todd from childhood through adult city leagues in soccer and baseball. Raised in a strong Christian home, Jerry was a dedicated student of the Bible and an active member of several churches throughout his life, including Urbandale Church of Christ, Military Parkway Church of Christ, Highland Oaks Church of Christ, Pleasant Ridge Church of Christ, and The Hills Church of Christ in North Richland Hills. He faithfully participated in Bible Study Fellowship for more than 15 years and cherished the deep, lifelong friendships formed through his Sunday classes and small groups.
Jerry was predeceased by his parents, H.F. “Speedy” and Evelyn Thompson; his brother, H.F. “Sonny” Thompson; and his nephew, Gregg Pearson. He is survived by his daughter, Gina and husband Derric Little; his son, Todd and wife Sharon Thompson; his cherished grandchildren: Tyson Thompson and Garrett Salowski, and from Gina's family—Hunter and wife Keri Murphy, Jordan and wife Meagan Murphy, and Oakley Little; and his great-grandson, Kyson Murphy. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill (Celeste) Thompson and Tommy (Bevelyn) Thompson; his sister, Linda (Jim) Pearson; and many nieces and nephews who deeply admired and loved him.
Whether on the sidelines, in the church pews, or gathering family for a golf tournament or game, Jerry led with quiet strength, compassion, and unwavering love. His legacy lives on in every life he touched, especially his family, who walked every step of life with him—together.
