Jess David Caldwell's Obituary
Jess David Caldwell was born January 2, 1945, the youngest of three children to Lois (Samuelson) and Jess Caldwell in Denton, Tx. David passed away at the age of 75 on August 13, 2020 following a brief illness due to non-COVID related issues. A true family-man, he was reunited in death with his parents, his sister Sammye Caldwell of Farmers-Branch, his sister and brother-in-law Gussie and Joe Cudd of Carrollton, and numerous relatives by marriage on his wife’s side of the family. Following his graduation from North Texas State University (now UNT), David began a 30-year teaching career in the Dallas Independent School District as both a History teacher and coach. After retiring from the DISD in 1997, he continued showing patience and skill with middle and high school aged young adults as a substitute teacher in the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD. Countless drivers around the Metroplex will remember him for his time teaching Driver’s Education (and parallel parking!!) in commercial driving schools. He was very proud of ultimately earning a certificate to test and certify students as qualified drivers before his retirement from his second career in 2018. He and his wife reached their 50th wedding anniversary 3 weeks before his passing. He is survived by his wife, Paula Caldwell of Carrollton; son Matt Caldwell of Carrollton; daughter Darcy Caldwell of Hackberry; nephew and niece-in-law Chris and Jennifer Sosebee of Duncanville; and great-nephew Nicholas Sosebee of Duncanville. A memorial service will be planned for family and friends at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorial donations be made to Operation Kindness (3201 Earhart Dr, Carrollton, TX 75006) to celebrate the joy brought to his life by numerous dogs over the years.
