Jewell 'Julie' Hipp's Obituary
Julie Hipp passed away September 19, 2025, at her home after a courageous 11-year battle with cancer.
Jewell Carol Puttin Hipp was born March 22, 1945, to Oscar G. Puttin and Minnie (Krause) Puttin at Le Sueur, Minnesota. She attended Catholic grade school and graduated from Le Sueur High School in 1963. She attended Mankato State (now Minnesota State) University graduating in 1966 with a Bachelor's degree and teaching certificate. For the next 15 years, she taught English in the Albert Lea and St. Cloud, Minnesota school districts.
In 1976, she met her future husband, Antone 'Tony' Hipp, and they were married on June 4, 1977. She continued teaching in St. Cloud until 1982 when she and her husband moved to Dallas in connection with his job transfer. At the time, she was expecting a baby, and Jana Lynn Hipp was born to her and her husband on February 20, 1983.
She subsequently joined the teaching staff at South Garland High School in fall of 1983, teaching high school English for the next 29, retiring at the end of Spring semester in 2012.
Her hobbies included painting and sketching, reading, traveling with her husband in retirement, getting together with her friends and working with her granddaughter Peyton Hipp on her own educational experiences. Peyton is a 2025 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in Dallas.
She was especially close to her brother, MGSGT Andrew Puttin (Ret.), and he survives her as well as her husband, daughter, granddaughter, and her many friends and associates in Dallas and in Minnesota.
