Jim Millerman's Obituary
Born May 1, 1937 in Abilene, Texas, and passed away April 22, 2016 in Dallas, Texas. Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, the love his life, Esther Millerman, his son James Millerman, III and wife Elena, his daughter Melayne Packer and husband Ian, his son Eric Millerman, his grandchildren, Mary and Cameron Packer and Julia and Sofia Millerman, his brother, John Millerman, sister Georgiana Ewing and numerous other relatives. Jim was an accomplished athlete in high school and college, excelling in football and track. He was a captain and running back of the Abilene High School Eagles football team in 1954, which started a streak of three consecutive state titles and 49 straight victories. This winning streak earned Abilene High School the distinction of Texas High School Football “Team of the Century” from the Dallas Morning News. Jim also was a captain of the Abilene High track team and ran the lead leg on the 440-yard relay team that won the state championship with the fastest time in the nation that year. Jim went on to graduate from Baylor University in 1959 and joined the family insurance business, Millerman & Millerman, in Abilene. He expanded the business after moving to Dallas in 1970. He earned his CPCU designation and was President of the Independent Insurance Agents of Dallas in 1987. He went on to work for many years at TexCap Insurance with his lifelong partner and friend Gaylon Brown and many other beloved colleagues. Jim’s athletic and commercial accomplishments were eclipsed by his faith, his heart of a servant, and his love for his family and friends. He was on the North Central Texas Young Life board for over 20 years and served Dallas inner-city youth through Young Life clubs. He also served in Grace Bible Church as an elder and in other roles there for over forty years. Jim took many opportunities to share his faith in Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. When sharing his faith, he loved quoting Esphesians 2:8-9: “For by grace are you saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast.” A memorial service will be held on April 25 at 2 PM at Grace Bible Church, 11306 Inwood Road at Northaven, Dallas. A brief burial service will be held on April 25 at 10 AM at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas.
