Jim Ned Sawyer's Obituary
Jim Sawyer was born August 14, 1931, in Evant, TX and at the age of 90, he peacefully passed on to his heavenly home on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
He grew up in Evant, TX and lived there until college, where he ultimately graduated from Texas Tech University. He took a break during college and entered the Air Force where he served as a Staff Sergeant. After serving time in Korea, he returned to Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport, LA. While attending church in Shreveport, he met his wife of more than 69 years, Annie (Ann) Pearl Gunn. They were married on a three-day pass, on December 23, 1952.
After his service in the Air Force, he returned with Ann to Lubbock, TX to finish his college courses.
After college, he began his career at A. E. IIIes, Co. in Dallas, TX, a flavor manufacturing company. He worked there his entire career until he retired in 1987. During those years, he and Ann lived in Irving, TX and attended Plymouth Park Baptist Church. He served in many roles at the church including Deacon, teacher and Sunday School Superintendent for over 25 years. He loved doing the Lord’s work, especially going out and visiting new people and inviting them to church. He loved the Lord and loved people and was always ready to help others. He was honest and hardworking, and always made it home for dinner.
Jim and Ann raised their three children, Steve, Betty and Linda in Irving and in 1987, they retired to Holly Lake Ranch in east Texas. They lived there for 34 years in a home they had built together. They also were 2 of the founders of Holly Brook Baptist Church, their current church home. Again, they enjoyed serving at the church in various ways. They also went on many mission trips across the country, including rebuilding and working on churches and mission homes in Alaska and Hawaii.
Another way Jim and Ann spent time together and with other friends, was golfing. They got to see a lot of the country while on golf trips.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Putnam and Fleta Sawyer; his sister, Doris (Sawyer) McCarver and brother, Robert (Bob) Sawyer; his son, Steve Sawyer. He is survived by his wife, Ann Sawyer; his daughters and sons in law, Richard and Betty Buckmaster, and Paul and Linda Leamon; his grandchildren Nick and wife Alison Leamon and great-grandchildren, Brecken and Halle, Andrea and husband Randall White, and Mark Leamon. Jim was such a blessing to so many people, and he will be missed on this earth.
