Jimmie R. Brown's Obituary
Born July 15, 1918 and passed away January 20, 2009. His business career began in program sales with radio station KGNC, Amarillo. Active in civil affairs, he was elected President of the Amarillo Jaycees and later was named Executive Vice President of the Texas Jaycees. A WWII veteran of the 439th Troop Carrier Squadron, he came to Dallas in 1951, where he joined Beer & Co, member, New York Stock Exchange. In 1954, he was appointed to Allans Shivers’s reelection staff for Governor of Texas. He is a retired Vice President of the Reinsurance Division, Republic National Life, Dallas, now American General Life, Houston. He was a regular speaker for Service Corps of Retired Executive’s (SCORE) workshops which were presented at all Dallas community colleges. Public speaking was central to his entire business life. He assisted in the organization of FBM Leasing, an equipment leasing company in Dallas in 1984. A business major ex-student of Texas Tech, he served as President of the Farmers Branch Chapter of AARP in 1996. His affiliations include: Hella Shrine Temple 32nd degree Mason, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and Lovers Lane Methodist Church. His most enduring lesson was his spirit; he never gave up being a part of the action and a passion of his time. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gayle; stepdaughter, Lana Greer and husband David; stepson, John Lee and wife, Ghie; grandchildren: Scott Erwin and wife, Wendy, and Alyssa Lee; great grandson, Andrew Erwin; nephew, Randall Brown; nieces, Delores Andrews and Pamela Wilson. Services will be held at 1:00PM, Friday, January 23, 2009 at Restland Abbey Chapel, with visitation 1 hour prior to service.
