Jimmy Dale Johnson's Obituary
Jimmy Dale Johnson went peacefully into his Father’s arms on June 14, 2015 due to heart complications, surrounded by his family. Dale was born to Carl and Elva Johnson in Lubbock, Texas on June 7, 1937. He grew up in Shallowater, Texas and graduated high school in 1955. In his senior year he met Noretta Trantham and they were married on December 23, 1956. Dale attended Texas Tech University and graduated in 1958 with a B.S. in Education and earned a Masters Degree in 1976. While attending Texas Tech he worked as a proofreader at The Lubbock Avalanche Journal until his graduation. Upon graduation Dale was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in San Francisco, California for 4 years. Upon honorable discharge from active duty he went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone in St. Louis, Missouri. A year and half later, Dale was transferred to Lubbock. While in Lubbock he established himself as a community servant and leader. Dale served on the board of The United Way, with the Girl Scouts, was a Chapter Chairman for the Red Cross, and served as an Elder at the Wolfforth Church of Christ. Dale was also active in the lives of his children as “Running Bear” in the Indian Guides, as a baseball coach for little league and was a life member of the PTA. After 12 years of serving others in Lubbock, Southwestern Bell transferred him to Dallas and put him in charge of Public Relations, making him a District Director. Dale represented Southwestern Bell at the Public Utility Commission hearings, in Austin, which ultimately led to the divestiture of the phone company. However, his community service did not stop. Dale was active on the board of Christian Services of the Southwest. His primary service, however, was to his Lord as an Elder for the Buckingham Road Church of Christ for 37 years. Dale was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ione Crush, brother Don Johnson, and daughter Shauna. His loving family whom has the honor of carrying on his memory include his wife of 58 years, Noretta Johnson, brother Glenn Johnson of Lubbock and wife Joy, son Kevin of Tomball and wife Patti, son Quinn of Rockwall and wife Susan, daughter Michelle Minkner of Lufkin and husband Craig. His grandchildren include grandsons Grant Johnson, Lance Johnson and Aaron Minkner. Grandaughters are Kristen George, Amber Minkner, Kassie Johnson, Kaitlyn Johnson and great-granddaughters Lexi George and Addison Harris. Dale is also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved him. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238 at Restland Road.
