Jimmy "Jim" Nickell's Obituary
Mr. Jimmy “Jim” Nickell, aged 77, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on April 25, 2024. Born and raised in the Dallas area, Jim was a man of diverse interests and talents. His passions included his beloved Cocker Spaniels, his artist Paintings that could be mistaken as Picasso’s, Jewelry Making, Gardening, Bowling, daily online Poker escapades with his brother, while a friend to many.
Jim’s professional journey was remarkable. His interest in hair styling began at Santa Monica College, which developed his incredible passion for the cosmetology industry and personal creativity. Jim was a brilliant hairdresser and a man that paid attention to detail. He was loved, appreciated and respected by all his clients. As one of the original hairstylists for the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, he lent his flair to their iconic looks. Jim owned his own hair salon, Symbology, located in the heart of Dallas. His expertise extended beyond the salon with business relationships that included Jose Eber, Paul Mitchell and Vidal Sassoon. Additionally, Jim had planned to author his manuscripts and drafts on hair styling, which would have left an indelible mark on the industry.
Jim attended Justin F. Kimbal High School, Class of 1965. While attending Kimball High School, age 16, “Jimmy” was a member of the Zangs TABY Handicap Traveling Bowling Team. In February 1963, he bowled a perfect game of 300. Quoting directly from the Bowling News, “something that many a kegler, millions upon millions, never get to perform”. Other quotes were “a marvelous game”, “the best game I ever saw”, what a beautiful game”. After high school, Jim enlisted in The National Guard: 1965-1971. In the quiet moments, Jim cherished family bonds. Survived by his loved ones:
· Larry Kinsala, his brother and confidant, and wife Carole Kinsala
· Kristine Reed, his niece, a testament to his enduring legacy, and husband Aaron Reed, great niece Emma Reed and great nephew Maxwell Reed
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Cheryl Holt Nickell, parents Forrest Maywood and Virginia Fay Nickell, sister Linda Gayle Nickell and son Joshua Barry Crook.
Jim was a believer, and we will see him again. He is now reunited with family and friends, we can only imagine the joys and fun he is currently having in heaven. As we bid farewell to Jim, let us celebrate a life well-lived—a tapestry woven with passion, creativity, and love. May his spirit continue to inspire us all.
A memorial service to honor Jim’s life will be held on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00am at Wildwood Chapel at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX.
