Jo Ann Phy's Obituary
Jo Ann Phy, a beloved wife, mother, Nana, sister, and friend, left us on May 15, 2025.
Jo Ann was born on January 14, 1935 in Winnsboro, Texas, to Vernon Winkle and Alyne Electra Brown-Winkle. She met the love of her life, Finis Ray Phy, and they were married by her uncle, Clyde Darr, in Wichita Falls, Texas, on October 21, 1951.
Jo Ann was a devout Christian and a member of Rodgers Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir most of her life. She loved music and often sang to her family. She passed down her love of music and reading to her children and grandchildren.
She loved to travel with her husband Finis. His work took them many places in the US and abroad. They spent years of their life and made many friends while living in Puerto Rico, Ireland, New Zealand, and China. In spite of their travels, they were always grounded in their faith and family.
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her husband Finis Ray Phy, parents Alyne and Vernon Winkle, son Gary Ray Phy, grandsons Phillip Ray Phy and Robert Shean Abston, great-granddaughter Alexis Lawren Phy Tucker, and brother Perry Hugh Winkle.
She is survived by her sister, Nancy Wagoner; sons Deryl (Suzanne) and Rickey Phy; daughter-in-law Ramona Fincher Lane (Phy), grandchildren Melissa (Matthew) Carline, Finis Phy, Kayce (Timothy) Naegele, Joseph (Kelly) Phy, Tiffany (Cody) Keene, and Dustin (Sierra) Phy, Christopher Kennedy; seventeen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Jo Ann will be remembered for the love she shared with everyone she met.
Visitation will be on May 22, 2025, at 4:00 pm at Restland Dallas, and her memorial service will be on May 23, 2025, at 10:30 am at Rodgers Baptist Church, where friends and family will gather to celebrate Jo Ann's extraordinary life.
