Joan Greiner's Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Greiner announce her passing on November 9, 2018 at the age of 84 years old, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Charles Greiner and grandson Robert Edward Ballow. She is survived by 3 children: Debra Bell and her husband Brent Bell of Galveston, TX, Pamela Ballow of Carrolton, TX, and Lynn Wisdom and husband Kevin Wisdom of Dallas, TX; 5 grandchildren: Kyle Wisdom and his wife Elizabeth of Dallas, Texas, Katherine Allen and her husband Craig of Dallas, TX, Jennifer McCarty and her Husband Thomas of Houston, TX, Lauren Butaud and her husband Scott of Friendswood, TX, and Mallory Wisdom of Dallas, TX; 7 great grandchildren: Wren Wisdom of Dallas, TX, Eden and Sarah Allen of Dallas, TX, Austin and Carter Butaud of Friendswood, TX and Logan and Karter Wisdom of Dallas, TX. She also leaves behind her two sisters Jan Gans (husband Don) and Marjorie Cranston (husband Craig) and their families. After marrying the love of her life in 1955, Joan was evolved to be every bit the devoted wife, supportive mother and pillar of strength for her family. Not only did she move frequently as a military wife, but after Robert’s years of service for his country, her husband was brought in to the early stages of a now well-known company: Marriot. Having to relocate to Texas, Georgia, Louisiana, and even Virginia to continue to grow with Marriott’s new-found popularity, Joan could do most things like the best of them. From taking up any sport she thought she could master, such as tennis and golf, tomaking a gumbo roux even a local couldn’t tell was made by a Northerner, she had the natural knack and ability to simply fit right in.Finally settling in to Dallas, Joan planted roots where she had some wonderfully special times. Whether it was cheering on the Cowboys or gathering with her wine group, Joan was the archetype of what it means to be a stylish and sophisticated woman of Dallas. She was setting the example early on to her youngest family members, even when she did not know it, of what it meant to be well rounded, traditional, yet adaptive to the modern way of doing things. She used this support of her family andestablished friend groups to lift her up after mourning the loss of her life partner Robert and to defeat breast cancer.Joan decided to go back in to the workforce, where she spent five years of service at Tiffany and Company’s. She always so generously gifted those she loved with items that made them feel so special for simply being wrapped in the signature blue box, that it put a true bright spot in any holiday or family milestone celebration. As she grew older, and her family expanded to include great grandchildren, the highlight of the holidays was still “Gram’s” lasagna, a token Christmas Eve staple or gumbo that she would make from scratch with her dear friend Biddie each year. While her family can’t express exactly what they will miss the most about her departure from this life, they are all so thankful to be better for others and to continue to be inspired by her strong faith, warrn heart, open mind, incredible strength and relentless love for all of those around her.Funeral Service will be Saturday, November 17, 10:00 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church, 8071 Preston Rd., Dallas Tx 75225. A reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.Funeral arrangements for Joan Greiner have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
