Joan "Honey" Floyd's Obituary
Joan Bean Floyd was born on December 14, 1933 to Paul and Maude Bean in West, TX, the youngest of two daughters, and passed away on July 28, 2016. Joan was a graduate of Brazosport High School in 1952, attended the University of Houston and later in life attended Houston Baptist University. On August 16, 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard F. Floyd in Lake Jackson, Texas and there began their lifelong love story. In 1953, she began her studies to become a nurse, planning to be a caregiver to the world. However, in 1954 her first “bundle of joy” came along and her true calling was unveiled. She became the devoted and loving supporter of her beloved family of four forever grateful children. In 1970, she joined husband Richard on the roof as they built their family home in Conroe, TX. Joan loved her family so completely because of her devotion to her Lord. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Lake Jackson, TX; Westbury Baptist Church in Houston, TX; First Baptist Church in Conroe, TX and First Baptist Church in Richardson,TX. She served as Preschool Director during her years at First Baptist Church, Conroe, TX and lovingly influenced many young families. She lived her Lord’s directive: “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them” as she trained preschool leaders for the Baptist Convention of Texas. She developed many lifelong friendships during these years in Conroe and her heart returned there many times in the years to come. In 1982, her life as “Honey” began when her first grandchild arrived, followed by six more over the next seven years. She would have described this phase as just a continuation of the loving chaos the more the merrier, the louder the better. To her, it meant all of her family was close and secure. Because of her patient, loving, happy spirit, she became Honey to not only her loving grandchildren, but to all who met her, thereafter. Whether she was assisting at numerous Richardson schools or later, impacting those at Cottonwood Creek Assisted Living Center, she was lovingly known as “Honey” to all. Joan is preceded in death by husband, Richard F. Floyd, sister, Patsy Petticrew and greatgrandson, Wyatt Kyllonen. Joan is survived by her children Carol Johnson and husband Randy of Garland, Rick Floyd and wife Tammy of Garland, LeighAnn Curtis and husband Greg of San Antonio, and Gary Floyd and partner Danny Miller of Dallas. Loving grandchildren include: Lindsey Johnson Floyd and husband Bobby, Casey Johnson Kyllonen and husband TJ, Jake Floyd and wife Misti, Tyler Floyd and wife Tiffany, Dustin Floyd and wife Melissa, Hannah Curtis Sharawi and husband Harris, and Matt Curtis. Greatgrandchildren include: Asher Floyd, Aubrey Floyd, Piper Kyllonen, Ryleigh Floyd, Keira Floyd, and Kellen Floyd. Joan is also survived by a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
