Joann Cato's Obituary
JoAnn Cato passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 17, 2018 in Bokchito, Oklahoma at the age of 84. JoAnn was born to parents Grady and Irene Hyde on December 27, 1933 in Silo, Oklahoma. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1951 and was one of three children, eldest to brothers Kenneth and Allen Hyde. On June 30, 1950 she married the love of her life, William “Bill” Cato, of Van Alstyne, Texas. During their 56 years of marriage, Bill and JoAnn raised three daughters: Sherry, Donna, and Kelly, with patience, selflessness, and discipline. As the heart of the Cato family, JoAnn was a strong influence on everyone, from co-workers and neighbors to friends and extended family. With a real passion for life, “Nanny”, as her grandchildren called her, enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending quality time with her friends and family. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Garland. Known for her loving and caring personality, she possessed a contagious smile and an entertaining sense of humor. Throughout her life, she maintained a sweet and simple demeanor that won the trust and hearts of many, who now remember her by her endless nurturing love. She was a caretaker to all. She helped raise her brothers, took care of her elderly parents, her husband, and tended to her own children and grandchildren. Her signature gift of joy, shown through her constant smiling, laughter, and frequent acts of kindness, will never be forgotten. We know that there is a joyous reunion happening in Heaven today with her family and friends that have passed on before her. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents Grady and Irene Hyde of Garland, Texas; her husband William Cato of Garland, Texas; and her brother Kenneth (Dolores) Hyde of Frisco, Texas. She is survived by her brother Allen and his wife Jay Hyde of Sherman, Texas; her daughter Sherry (Hugh) Holloway of Bokchito, Oklahoma, her daughter Donna Copeland of Rockwall, Texas; and her daughter Kelly Cato of Garland, Texas.
