Joann Traeger (nee Lane) Wilson's Obituary
Wilson, Joann Traeger (nee Lane), 85, passed away Thursday, March 5, peacefully at her residence in St. Louis, Missouri. She lived with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease the last years of her life. Joann was born in Wichita, Kansas October 25, 1929 to Irene and Howard Lane. She was the oldest of three children, her sister, the late Mary (Kay) Conover and her brother, the late John H. Lane. Joann married William (Bill) V. Traeger in September of 1952, who passed in 1979. She married again to G. W. (Bill) Wilson in 1982, who passed in 2000. Joann Traeger moved to Dallas, Texas in 1952 shortly after marrying Bill Traeger where she lived until 2010. She lived much of her early life in Evanston, Illinois moving to New York for her senior year of High School. She graduated from Cornell University and later received a Masters in Art from Southern Methodist University. While raising her two sons, Loren and John, much of Joann’s life involved her love of Art. Her abilities were demonstrated early when she illustrated her Father’s published books on Child Development. Joann produced works of art in many mediums during life and was a Docent for the Dallas Museum of Fine Arts. She taught briefly at the Dallas Arts Magnet School. She was influenced by Southwest Art while residing at her winter home in Durango, Colorado. Joann is remembered for her outgoing personality and many wonderful friends. She loved spending time at Lake Tawakoni with her family and many of her friends of the Walnut Cove community. Joann is survived by her two loving sons, Loren and John Traeger, Loren’s wife Terri and their children, Leslie, Erin, Ryan and Austyn, John’s wife Carolyn and their three sons, Michael, Christopher and Jonathan; Sister-in-Law Donna Lane; Joann’s Step-children, Bill Wilson, Pete Wilson, Jeanie Jones, Mary Bruzzone, and Emily Bailey; Nieces and Nephews, David L. Conover, Elizabeth (Betsy) C. Parady, Susan C. Mayman, Sarah Traeger, Mathew Traeger and Amy C. Arnold; Loren and John’s Uncle, John P. Baird. Predeceased members of Joann’s family are Virginia Baird (nee Traeger), Theodore (Ted) Traeger, John P. Baird Jr. and William H. Baird. Visitation will be held at Restland Funeral Home from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with a Memorial Service to follow at 11:00 am on Saturday, March 14, also at Restland Funeral Home (Memorial Chapel).
