Joanna Lea Tharpe's Obituary
Joanna Lea Dwyer McQuien Tharpe was born April 20, 1964 in Hobbs, New Mexico. She was united with Christ March 27, 2016 in Carrolton. The family will receive visitors Monday April 4, 2016 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX. Celebration of Life and Hope Service is 12 p.m. April 5, 2016 at First United Methodist Church of Dallas, 1928 Ross Ave, officiated by Reverend Cathy L. Mordecai and Reverend Blaire Thompson. Interment is immediately following the service at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX. Joanna grew up in Lewisville, Texas, where she graduated from Lewisville High School. She was full of life and fun and lit up whatever room she walked in. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, aunt and friend who always kept life exciting and fun. Joanna’s professional life was no different than her personal and she set the tone of her surroundings with humor, integrity and honesty. Admired by many throughout her career, she worked for Excel Communications for 9 years in the Associate Support call center, building relationships with her co-workers, the marketing staff and customers. In 2005, she was given the opportunity to carry her skills to start-up electric company Stream Energy in the Compliance Department. She truly loved her work, her co-workers, Associates and customers. She would go out of her way to help anyone and always searched for and found the truth on her friends’ or coworkers’ behalf. For 11 years Joanna worked tirelessly in the Compliance Department until she was promoted to Director. Additionally, she was a founding charter member of Stream’s Women of Power, which promotes and empowers women for success. Joanna is preceded in death by her grandmother Mattye (Budgie) Bomar. She is survived by her husband William (Bill) A. Tharpe, II of Dallas, daughters Brianna McQuien and her son Brendan, of Denton, Rachel McQuien and her son Beefy of Richardson, Brianna and Rachel’s father Gordon McQuien of Garland, mother Jo Rae Lange of Victoria, stepson Nathan Tharpe of Dallas, brothers Patrick Dwyer and wife Cindy of Justin, Robert Dwyer of Denton, sister Shannon Lara and husband Charlie of Victoria and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Pallbearers: Gordon McQuien, Nathan Tharpe, Rob Snyder, Dusty Dwyer, Blake Dwyer, and Joe Puente. Honorary Pallbearers: Patrick Dwyer, Robert Dwyer, John Tharpe, William Tharpe, Steve Flores and Mike R. Jones. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hope Supply Co. (formally Captain Hope’s Kids) or First United Methodist Church of Dallas. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to everyone for the prayers, gifts, cards, flowers and love through this journey. The visitation for Joanna Tharpe will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 4, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Joanna will be Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 12:00 PM at First United Methodist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
