Jody Myers' Obituary
Martha Joan McCarthy Myers, affectionately called Jody, passed away on December 17, 2015 at 95 years of age. She was born on November 9, 1920 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jody was a charter member of Chapel Hill Methodist Church and a long- time resident of Dallas, Texas. Jody attended the University of Oklahoma where she met her future husband, Jack T. Myers and served as the president of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority. She received her Bachelors of Science Degree in 1942. Mrs. Myers was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Jack T. Myers, her father, G. C. McCarthy, mother Aileen McCarthy, sister Bettie Jean McCarthy, and brother Billie Cleve McCarthy. She is survived by daughters Linda Myers Purcell (Ross Leonard) and Patricia Myers (William Knighton), grandson Ken Purcell (Kristi Purcell), and two great grandsons, Jack Myers Purcell and Joseph Giley Purcell. To Jody, life was always an adventure as she and Jack traveled the world. She found great joy in God’s natural world. Jody loved gardening, watching the birds, and spending time on the beautiful beach with turquoise water in Cancun, Mexico. Jody was successful in all her roles in life as a loving wife, caring mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dedicated friend to many. Jody had a huge heart and gentle spirit and will be dearly missed. Family members would like to express appreciation to her friends and staff at Willow Bend Assisted Living in Denton, Texas for greatly enriching Jody’s life. A private graveside service will be held on Monday, December 21, 2015. Memorials may be sent to the American Lung Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
