Joe Kendall's Obituary
Joe Lenor Kendall lived a very happy 98 years and passed away peacefully on November 18, 2010. Joe was a kind and caring gentleman who lived life to the fullest each and every day. Born in Dallas, Texas on February 16, 1912, to Guy Heard and Mary Louise Carr Kendall, Joe was one of 7 children. Joe was preceded in death by his siblings, Elton, Guy, Roy, Grace, Dorothy and Raymond. Joe grew up in Dallas and graduated from Forest Avenue High and continued his education at SMU before joining Texaco as an auditor and traveled throughout the world. Joe proudly served his country in the Army Air Corp (now Air Force) during WWII. Joe met his first wife Bernice in California and resided in Irvine, CA. Joe and Bernice retired to Sun City. One of Joe’s treasures in Sun City was his bright yellow Karman Ghia, which he loved taking for a spin. Joe continued living in Sun City following Bernice’s death in December, 1991. Still having family in Dallas, Joe reconnected with family and friends and ended up marrying a sweetheart from the 1930s, Marguerite Burba Hilscher. Joe reacquainted with Marguerite and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married in August, 1993. After their marriage, Joe and Marguerite were rarely apart. Joe and Marguerite took their new life together to the fullest, including travels to London, the Panama Canal and New York City. After many years of fun and frolic, Joe lost Marguerite in 2008. Following her death, Joe kept going with the loving help of his step-daughter Barbara. At 98 years young, Joe was often the one to suggest a shopping trip or a dinner out. The one thing Joe wanted to do was keep moving – sitting still was not an option for him. Joe is survived by his nephews Ed Kendall, Joe Kendall, Kent Kendall and Scott Kendall and nieces Carol Kendall Heller and Susie Kendall Rogers. Joe also enjoyed the gift of many grand nephews and nieces. While no children of his own, Joe had several step-children including Ed Hilscher, Jr. and one step-grandson Ryan Hilscher, Barbara Hilscher Jackson, Janice Hilscher, Burt and Shelia Risser, Ron and Karen Gideon. During his marriage to Marguerite, the couple was a perfect example of the following: “We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can fly only by embracing each other.” Joe and Marguerite are embracing each other once again. Visitation will be Monday, November 22, 6-8pm, at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held Tuesday, November 23, 12:30pm, at Restland Wildwood Chapel.
