Uncle Ninh always showed me what family truly means. Whether it was the advice he gave me during our family gatherings or the way he quietly cared for everyone in the family, his love was always felt. One thing I’ll always smile about is his Texas accent — he was the only uncle I had with that unique way of speaking, and it made him even more special to me. I deeply miss his presence, his voice, and the warmth he brought to our family.

I have rewritten this many times. I have thought about why to even write this many times also. Time shared is rare, it is unique, but most importantly you cannot have time back. I will cherish the times I had and the memories that come with it. Joe impacted my timeline in many ways. All of it positive. I am grateful for the time spent Joe. It meant everything to me. The memory I have is of you taking this homeless kid in. Thank you for not killing me when I would eat all your delicious bread. Thank you for sticking up for me and for believing in me in my worst moments.
Admittedly I was nervous first meeting Joe over 20 years ago. Probably the normal anxiety one gets from meeting the father of a girl you're seeing or perhaps it was due to Franky relaying to me a story of how he had chased off other failed suitors. Whichever it was my nerves were soon settled meeting Joe who was inviting to me and made me feel at home. Some of my fondest memories are sitting at his dinner table with Franky and Annie and eating spring rolls even though I was terrible at constructing them. Joe would recall stories of his younger days in Vietnam and I was enthralled. I will hold the memories of his kindness to me and the wondrous detail of his stories forever. Franky and Annie are very fortunate to have had such a man as their father. If a parent can be measured by their offspring, then Joe was one of the best. Thank you for the memories, old friend.
