Joe Obe Wilson Jr.'s Obituary
Joe O. Wilson, Jr., 89, died Palm Sunday morning, April 9, 2017, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born in Texarkana, Texas on September 11, 1927, but was a lifelong resident of Dallas. He graduated from Highland Park High School at the age of 16 and immediately entered into The University of Texas, graduating with a pharmaceutical degree. In 1952, he enlisted in the U.S. Army to fight in the Korean War and, while in service, he rose from sergeant to First lieutenant in the Signal Corps. After he returned from the war, he worked for many years at the family-owned pharmacies, Big World Drug Stores, until their closures and then he worked for over 20 years at Albertsons pharmacies. He and his family lived in Lake Highlands for over 55 years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents Juanita (Nita) and Joe O. Wilson, Sr., and his brother Jerry Lee Wilson. He is survived by his wife of over sixty years, Dorothy (McCaslin) Wilson; his sons, Bob Wilson of Florida and Brad Wilson of Dallas; his daughters, Diane Hollie of Plano and Deborah Carlton and husband George of Dallas; his grandchildren Chris Mitchell and wife Brandi of Colleyville; Cameron Mitchell and wife Anne of Las Colinas; Dr. Chad Carlton and wife Kristin of Frisco, Lindsey Alread of Florida, Alyssa Wilson of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren Payton Mitchell, Camryn Mitchell and Cole Read Carlton. During his entire career, he was loved and respected by all his customers. He was affectionately known by many of them as “Dr. Joe.” He took pride at being a good pharmacist and he truly relished the friends he made while being one; however, his greatest joys were spending time with his family, painting, and gardening. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, Texas, 75243. A private memorial service will be held for Joe on Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in The Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home on Greenville Avenue.
