Joe Richard Youngblood Sr's Obituary
Joe Richard Youngblood, Sr. was born September 23,1930 in Alvarado, Texas and passed on May 5, 2025, at home in Union Valley, Texas, at the age of 94. He was born to Charlie Nicholas Youngblood and Florence Leola Davis Youngblood.
After high school graduation he attended Arlington State University to study his basics, shortly after, on January 23, 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served for three years, seven months, and nine days. He served during the Korean War as a radio operator and was honorably discharged earning three separate service medals from: The National Defense, The United Nations, and Korea.
After military service, he was hired by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Dallas as a lineman in January 1955. He was responsible for installing the 9-1-1 systems in Dallas and surrounding hospitals, police and fire departments. He had many titles and retired in upper management with forty-nine years of service, and forty-three of those years with perfect attendance. During his employment, he continued his education at Southern Methodist University.
In August 1957, he met Betty Jean Harper, and they married on August 8, 1958. He and Betty started their family in Dallas but moved to Rockwall in 1974. If you knew Joe, you knew he was a tinkerer, Mr. Fix It, a hoarder of tools, a gardener, a Christmas candy maker, the friend that would drop whatever he was doing to lend you a hand when needed, but also loved his family, his country, and our Lord and Savior.
Joe was predeceased in death by his parents, brother Charlie Roger Youngblood and wife Wilma, his sister Katherine Mae Bankston and husband Cecil, and his sister Billie Lorene Bass, many cousins and nephews.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Jean Youngblood, daughter Teresa Ivey of Dallas, son Joe R. Youngblood, Jr. (Rick) of Mesquite, and son Michael S. Youngblood (Mike) and wife Jana of Poetry. His life was further enriched by his grandchildren, Shaunna Adams, Dylan Youngblood and wife Danielle, Ashton Youngblood and Brennan Youngblood, and seven great grandchildren, Emmy, Reese, Ava, Silas, Ellie, Job and Lucas, plus many nieces, nephews and friends.
A visitation for Joe will be held Monday, May 19, 2025, at Restland Funeral Home, The Wildwood Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas, TX 75243 at 1pm, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 pm.
