John Linsley Allen's Obituary
ALLEN, JOHN LINSLEY was born in Oskohoosa, IA on May 7, 1920 and passed away on July 7, 2007 in Dallas, TX . He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rebecca Jane McMath Allen, 2nd wife, Rosemary Allen; 2 sons, Edward Gilbert Allen and David McMath Allen. John honorably served his country in the Navy until 1946. He is a graduate of SMU where he was a pitcher of the varsity baseball team. He dedicated his life to petroleum geology, was a charter member of the Paleozoic Society of Abilene, TX. He was the founding member of the Geological Information Library of Dallas, also a member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologist. John was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was kind, quiet, and generous. John is loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by 2 sons, John L. Allen Jr. and wife Yvette, Carey G. Allen; a daughter-in-law, Sara E. Allen; 8 grandchildren, Jana Sims, husband Chad, Julie Sanchez, husband Edgar, Rachel Allen, Ruth Vail, husband Michael, Judith Allen, Paul Allen, wife Sharleen R., Charles Allen, and Andrew Allen; 6 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Gilbert Allen; and numerous other relatives and friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, July 9, 2007 at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 3:30 at Restland Wildwood Chapel followed by interment at Restland Memorial Park.
