John M. Anderson's Obituary
Long-time DISD educator and principal, John M. Anderson, 92, passed away on December 2. A Dallas native born on November 19, 1927, he graduated from Highland Park High School, the University of Texas and the University of North Texas. He served in the US Army(July 1945 – August 1947) and was a 1st Lt in the Army Reserves (1953). He was known for his quick wit, kind heart and love of dancing, big band music and old movies. He is survived by his wife Betty Chandler Anderson, son Mark C. Anderson and wife Gay, daughter Sara Anderson and husband Malcolm Slaney, grandchildren Mark Anderson and wife Kate, Lewis Anderson and wife Amy, Kaija Jensen Xiao, and stepgrandchild Kent Slaney. He is also survived by great grandchildren Lucy, Will, Eckley and Eloise. Betty and John married late in life and Betty’s daughter Karen Chandler DeBerg and son-in-law Del DeBerg and their children, Drew and Chandler, were also an important part of his life. His memorial service will be at 10am, Monday, December 9, at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel.
