John Ankarstran's Obituary
John Ankarstran passed away on August 6, 2021 at the age of 78, in Garland, Texas. His battle with Parkinson’s Disease, following a stroke in 2009, illustrated his courage and ability to face life challenges with a smile. John maintained his wit and sense of humor until the end. He was surrounded by loved ones when he passed in his sleep.
John was born on January 20, 1943, in San Juan Puerto Rico to parents Edric Ankarstran and Paquita Rodriguez. He enlisted in the US Air Force after graduating high school at the age of 17 and served 24 years on active duty. John retired in December 1984 as a decorated Vietnam Veteran with the rank of Master Sergeant. After military retirement, he began a second career with the United States Postal Service where he served 24 years until retirement in 2009.
In his youth, John enjoyed flying model airplanes, playing softball, high-end audio, and driving fast cars. Later in life he developed a passion for golf, computer games, and league bowling. He was a staunchly devout Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. John married the love of his life, Vada on August 12, 1967, and they traveled the world as John’s military career progressed. John and Vada would celebrate their 54th anniversary today.
John was preceded in death by his father Edric Ankarstran, his mother Paquita Rodriguez, his brother Edward, and his in-laws Charlie & Lucille Russell. He is survived by wife Vada, daughter Tonya Wilson and son in-law Scott Wilson, stepmother Solange Ankarstran, sister Elaine & Geoff Gill, sister Sandra & Philippe Brice, brother Ralph Ankarstran, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. John was a proud Papa to grandchildren Cameron & Jenny Wilson, Corey Wilson, Ellyssa Binder, Sydnee Hutchcroft, Trey Owens, and great granddaughter Brooke Wilson.
