John Holt Benda's Obituary
BENDA, JOHN HOLT, born in Kearney, Nebraska May 17, 1918 and passed away Tuesday, May 1, 2007. John graduated from Oak Cliff High School January 1935. He attended Arlington College and the University of Texas where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. John enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September 1940. He was the assistant navigator on the USS Augusta when Roosevelt met with Churchill at Argentia Bay, Newfoundland. In August 1945 John was with the first occupation troops to enter Japan in Yokosuka, Japan. He was a Lieutenant Commander when he was discharged from the Navy in October 1945. John married Blanch Brown, December 27, 1946. They lived in Dallas where he was a home builder until his retirement. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Blanch Brown Benda. He is survived by his son, John David Benda; and daughters, Sondra Simons Carter and Betty Benda Montague; sons-in-law, Robert Berry Carter Jr., and John Milton Montague; daughter-in-law, Marsha Eastman Benda. He had 7 grandchildren, Berry Carter III, Christopher Carter, Marisa Montague, Michelle Montague, Parker Benda, McCall Benda and Alexandra Benda; 3 great grandchildren, Cayman Carter, Harrison Carter and Payton Carter; and sister, D’Maris Benda Crowe. Graveside service will be at 10:00 AM, Thursday, May 3, 2007 at Restland Memorial Park. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be moved to Restland Wildwood Chapel.
