John Roderick Burge, Jr., 91, was born on September 19, 1926 in Kansas City, MO and passed away on January 13, 2018 in Plano, TX.John is preceded in death by parents, John R Burge, Sr. and Daisy Burge; Jean Burge, wife of 70 years. He is survived by son, Stephen Burge and his wife, Shelley Burge; granddaughters, Courtney Burge and Megan Burge.At the time of John’s death, he had experienced a very successful career. He had been president of Trivision International Consulting, which he had founded in 1985. Prior to being a consultant, he had been employed by Texas Instruments, Inc. (TI) from 1959 to 1986, where he had retired as their semiconductor group comptroller (vice-president). During his career at TI, he was manager of their management computer systems and chief industrial engineer. While at TI, he obtained his MBA at the University of Dallas, where he became an associate professor – teaching graduate level managerial accounting and computer science.His career began at Katz Drug in Kansas City, where he was asked to open at least one store.From there, he joined General Motors. He was a pioneer in their computer management systems. In 1956, he was instrumental in installing one of the first electronic computers at General Motors.One of his accomplishments was leading a team to develop a patented, regimented mathematic pattern.During WWII, he was part of the third Marine Division (Pacific Theater).Other parts of his life included being a CPA, an early member of the management systems association, a charter member of the numerical control society, Boy Scout Leader for Troop 57 in Garland, Texas, and associate director and treasurer of the Agape class and usher at Prestonwood Baptist Church.At the age of 69, he took up golf. His goal was to shoot his age. Up until his last couple of years, he continued to strive for it. He believed that he only needed a few more years.We are appreciative of the family caretakers, especially Clarissa, Betty, Angelina, and Sophia.Funeral service will be at 3:30 pm, Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Restland Memorial Park in the Abbey Chapel. The family will begin receiving friends at the Abbey Chapel beginning at 2:30 pm. Following the service, there will be a short procession to the Whispering Waters Mausoleum for a brief committal ceremony.He also believed that you live once (on earth).
