John "Scott" Carpenter's Obituary
John Scott Carpenter, known to everyone as Scott, passed away November 8 at his home in Rowlett. He had waged a fierce fight against cancer for more than 8 years, but it finally overtook him. Scott was just 62 years old.
He was born at Baylor Hospital on May 13, 1963, and spent his first few years in Dallas. His mother, Charlene Martin, married several times, and they moved from Texas to Mississippi, Minnesota, Kentucky and California—all before Scott started first grade. They later returned to Texas, and Scott graduated from Plano High School and then from East Texas State University (now East Texas A&M).
Scott was passionate about sports of any kind, but he absolutely loved the Dallas Cowboys. When he was just 15, he flew to Miami by himself
to see them play in the Super Bowl! He attended several more Super Bowl games, countless home games and never missed his ‘Boys on TV.
Scott also loved animals and always had a pet or two. In fact, when he was in Miami for that Super Bowl game, he found a tiny kitten and smuggled it home on the plane tucked inside his coat!
A natural-born salesman, Scott put his talents and charm to good use in a variety of fields, but he excelled in his later years as the no. 1 sales rep for GutterMaxx.
Scott wanted to live life to the fullest. He loved traveling to new places, fine dining, scary movies and fantasy football. He was generous to his friends, usually picking up the tab when they went out.
Scott’s life was filled with adversity in many ways, not the least of which was when he lost his home to the tornado that hit Garland and Rowlett on Dec. 26, 2015. He handled that tragedy with determination and tenacity and rebuilt the home of his dreams. He planned to spend the rest of his life there. He did; but, sadly, the end came way too soon.
Scott is survived by his beloved dogs, Molly and Kida. Molly, a 14-year-old shepherd mix, lost her eyesight a few years ago but could always find Scott and slept on the floor beside his bed. Kida, the sweetest Chihuahua ever born, was always curled up next to Scott and was by his side at the end.
He is also survived by his cousins, Jonnie Lee England and Glynn Ann Ruggeri and her family; David Bronder; Garrett Halsell; Kyle Woods; and Ted Wallace and his church family at Reach: Rockwall, who welcomed him with open arms.
Scott had a deep and lifelong faith in God and knew he’d be reunited with his beloved Memaw, Bunny Martin; his mother Charlene; his Aunt Lil and Uncle Bryan; and a multitude of cherished dogs and cats.
Services will be Tuesday, November 18, at 2 p.m. at Wildwood Chapel at Restland in Dallas, followed by a reception at Reach: Rockwall. To honor Scott, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
