John Peter Dandalides' Obituary
Born June 10, 1923 in Lorain, Ohio; passed away September 14, 2009 in Allen, Texas. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Sophie Dandalides; brother, William “Bill” Dandalides; and parents, Peter and Helena Dandalides. Survivors include his son, Richard John Dandalides and wife Ruth; granddaughter, Katie (his greatest joy) Nicole Dandalides; brother, Dr. George Dandalides and wife Des; sister, Stell Dill; nephews, Pete, Steve, Jim, George-David, Bill, and Brad; nieces, Elaine, Caroline, Tina, Megan, Judy and Pam; beloved and faithful cat, Missy. John will be missed by his many friends from around the world. John was a member of St. Mathews Episcopal Church. He served his country in the US Army, where he received the Bronze Star during World War II, serving three terms, the last of which he worked as a CID agent. John worked many years for AMETEK Inc., holding positions as President and Chief Operating Officer, Managing Director of AMETEK GMBH (European Operations) and served on the Board of Directors. After retiring John donated his time and money to Interfaith Housing Coalition helping the homeless; and he worked with young school children in several Dallas schools. John served as a past President of the Rotary International, past President of AMVETS (American Veterans), past President of the American Institute of Industrial Engineers, and Chairman of United Way; he was a member of the Presidents Club of Kent State University as well as a member of the Presidents Club of Hiram College. The family will receive visitors from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Restland Funeral Home, and from 2:00 until 3:00 pm, Friday, September 18, 2009 in Restland’s Wildwood Chapel. A service will be held in John’s honor at 3:00 pm, Friday, in the Wildwood Chapel, with interment to follow in Restland Memorial Park, Whispering Waters Mausoleum.
