John William Day's Obituary
John William Day
March 23, 1951 – June 30, 2022
John William Day is now at peace with his Lord after his battle with Alzheimer’s came to an end. Born to parents James Elbert Day and Betty Roberts Day, John was the second eldest of four sons and a daughter. He graduated from Highland Park High School and earned a bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University. John’s passion for business led him to co-founding Day & Wagner CPA and founding Trintel Communications, Inc. and Pivot Building Services, as well as having a large role in other business ventures in oil and gas and real estate.
John was married to the love of his life, Vicky Duffin Day, for 42 wonderful years. He was a father to son Tyler and daughters Natalie and Lisa. His children adored their dad and got a kick out of his sense of humor and one-of-a-kind dance moves. Even well into his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, John never lost his rhythm nor his love for dancing to soul music.
John’s hobbies included fishing and golf. Fly fishing took him all over the world, including the fjords in Norway, the Amazon River, New Zealand, Alaska, Campeche, and the Seychelles in East Africa. Closer to home, he cherished weekends at Ferndale Fishing Club as well as rounds of golf with his friends at Preston Trail, Northwood and Dallas Country Club.
John treasured those friendships, even as Alzheimer’s stole parts of his persona. He also remained forever strong in his faith and steadfast in his love for his family. Close to the end of his journey, he still spoke with pride of his children - the “one light,” a friend said, “that always showed through.”
Four of John’s grandsons are named after their Pops; his spirit and love will live on through all those he leaves behind.
John was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, James Elbert Day Jr. He is survived by his wife Vicky, son Tyler (Julie), daughters Natalie Wills (Rob) and Lisa Finn (Daniel); grandchildren John Fielding, Carlos, Elizabeth and William Day; Jimmy, Johnny and Hallie Wills; Sienna and Nathan John William Finn; siblings Carolyn, Lester and Bobby; numerous nieces, nephews, and loyal friends.
The family thanks John’s wonderful caregivers, especially those from Divinis Care Hospice, as well as their loving neighbors on Colgate Avenue. A celebration of John’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 30 at Highland Park United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations to Weill Cornell Medicine (appl.weill.cornell.edu) and Alzheimer’s Prevention and Reversal Project (https://www.charitynavigator.org/ein/833366559) would be truly appreciated.
Funeral arrangements for John William Day have been faithfully entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery, which is located at 13005 Greenville Ave., at the intersection of Restland Road, Dallas, Texas 75243, and can be reached at (972) 238-7111.
