John Henry Dugan's Obituary
John Henry Dugan passed away June 15, 2011, at the age of 87. The son of James E. and Elizabeth (Brooks) Dugan was born April 29, 1924, near Forney, Texas, and graduated Forney High School in 1942. John Henry served in the U.S. Army in Europe during WWII and received the Purple Heart medal. When he returned home to Texas, he found the love of his life, Joyce LaNell Rushing, and they married June 26, 1947, and raised a family in Dallas. In 1963, they moved to Houston where John worked as traffic manager for Joske’s department store for 25 years, and then for Wilson’s Office Supply Co. He served as an elder at Bellfort Church of Christ in Houston for many years. After retiring, he and Joyce moved back to Forney and enjoyed their country place, fishing, growing roses, fruit trees, and vegetables. John was a loving father and husband, and as a faithful Christian always tried to live an exemplary life. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Joyce Dugan; by sisters: Edna Dugan Hurley, Dorothy Dugan Tull, Irene Dugan Adcock; and brother Thomas Edward Dugan. John is survived by his brothers: James Dugan and his wife Fay, David Dugan and his wife Doris; by his children: Vickie Joyce Dugan Brown and her husband Don Brown, John Michael Dugan, and Laura Elizabeth Dugan Wingfield; by grandchildren: Larissa Dawn Brown, Jeremy Lynn Brown and his wife Jennifer Brown, Aaron Dugan, and Joanna Dugan Gunderson and her husband Gary Gunderson; and their mother Gabi Hennessey; by great-grandchildren: Gabriella Kay Gunderson and Cole Gunderson. The family expresses our sincerest appreciation for the loving care John received at Arden Courts of Richardson during his last years. Visitation to be held Sunday, June 19th, 2:00 – 4:00 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services on Monday, June 20th at 10:00 in Wildwood Chapel, located in Restland Cemetery. Graveside service will follow at 12:00 noon at Heath Cemetery in Heath, Texas. Memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans or charity of your choice.
