John Winn Faris' Obituary
John Winn Faris passed away on April 20, 2021. Born June 28, 1945, he was the son of Bettye Lee Winn Smith, and Francis Whitely Faris. Both Mother and father preceded John in death. He will be missed by his loving wife, Sherrie R. Faris of San Antonio, Texas, and his children Sharlene Ann Eckhardt of San Antonio, Gregory William Faris of Dallas, Jennifer Michele Kent of San Angelo, and Scott Monroe Faris of Dallas. His grandchildren, who he so very much loved, include Remington Eckhardt, Olivia Eckhardt, Lexi Kent, Cullen Faris, Graham Faris, Ashley Faris, and Kendall Farmer.
John retired from the U.S. Government after 32 years holding various positions as Administrative Contracting Officer, Chief of Financial Services, and Chief of the Contract Management Division. He received numerous awards and commendations during his service with the U.S. Department of Commerce and the U.S. Department of Defense. His background with the U.S. Government included working in various offices throughout Texas, and also in Saudi Arabia in establishing a federal contract office in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Upon retiring, John's services were employed by various overseas companies in defense contract and program operations. Positions included serving as a Business and Operations Manager with Booz, Allen & Hamilton in Saudi Arabia, and Business & Contracts Manager with United Defense Systems. He also served as Program Manager with SEAVIN in Cairo, Egypt, and was responsible for managing and directing a defense support program of approximately 1,000 employees located in multiple sites in Egypt. John and his wife, Sherrie, were always a team throughout their lives in raising a family, dealing with life's challenges, and in serving together in overseas operations.
John was an active member of The Worship Place in Georgetown, Texas, and served that congregation in numerous ways. He was also active in the Georgetown Faith in Action, Meals on Wheels, and Love Georgetown programs. John loved family, and enjoyed fishing and golfing with his many friends. Services will be held in Dallas TX.
