John Edward Gorman's Obituary
John Edward Gorman of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, May 3. He will be remembered as a devoted father and “Pop,” a loyal “Good”friend, and a man whose warmth, leadership, and generosity touched many lives.
Born on August 28, 1942, in Aurora, Missouri, to Edward Francis and Margaret Elizabeth (Moore) Gorman, John graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1960, where he excelled in football and basketball. He attended the United States Naval Academy, where he was a proud member of the 24th Company, played on the 1963 National Champion 150-Pound Football Team, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1964.
John was accepted into Navy’s rigorous Nuclear program following graduation. After attending Sub School, he was assigned to the USS Sea Fox SS-402 from 1966-67 in San Diego, where the crew earned an “E” for Excellence. After Polaris missile training in 1967, John reported to the USS Kamehamehe SSBN-642 home ported in Pearl Harbor. In 1969, John left the Navy having served aboard 2 submarines that patrolled the Pacific Ocean during the Vietnam War.
While stationed in Northern California, John met the love of his life, Connie Ann Ausemus. They married on November 27, 1965, in Vallejo, California, and shared 40 wonderful years together before Connie’s passing in 2006.
Following his military service, John built a distinguished career in business and technology consulting. He spent 13 years in Sales and Training with IBM before joining Coopers & Lybrand, where he became a Partner and led Information Technology for the Southwest region. Known for mentoring young professionals and revitalizing struggling programs, he later served as Chief Operations Officer at James Martin & Associates before concluding his career at American Operations Corporation (AOC) alongside fellow Naval Academy alumni.
John was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing courses around the world, including his home course of Royal Oaks Country Club, where he served on the Board and as President in 2000. He was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and Navy athletics. Above all, he cherished traveling to Naval Academy submarine school and class reunions, trips to the Florida Keys with his Navy buddies, great wine, and time spent with family.
John is survived by his son, John Gorman Jr. and wife Maria of Plano, Tx; daughter Jennifer Carr and husband Duane of Keller, Tx; granddaughter Kendall Scaff and husband Zach of Richardson, Tx; granddaughter Maci Carr of New York City, NY; Katie Lynn Carr of Keller, Tx; Natalie Gorman of Plano, Tx; grandson John Gorman III of College Station, Tx, brother in-law Paul Barsi of Plover, Wi; sister in-law Cindy Roop and husband Ted of Katy, Tx; bother in-law Jimmy Ausemus of Spain and San Francisco, Ca; sister in-law Cheri Spradlin of Katy, Tx; sister in-law Jeri Bagwell and husband Richard of Houston, Tx; and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:30 AM on Thursday, May 14, at St. Rita Catholic Church, followed by interment at Restland Cemetery.
