John Yates Haggard's Obituary
John Yates Haggard, a lifetime resident of Plano, passed away on Thursday, April 2nd, after a short illness. John was a member of one of Plano’s pioneer families and was born on November 18, 1921. He attended Plano schools when there were eleven grades in one building and continued his education at TCU and Southwestern University. John was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 5th Marine Division in the Pacific theater and the occupation of Japan. After the war, he returned home to the family farm where he served as Chairman of the Plano Agricultural District and Vice President of the Cooperative Gin Company. John was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church and served on the Board for 25 years. He also was on the board of the first community swimming pool association in Plano and served as a judge for the school board elections for the Plano ISD. John was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Betsy Harrington Haggard and their daughter Jennie Haggard Little of Plano. He is survived by his son Eddie Ray Haggard of Houston, son-in-law Jim Little of Plano, sons Jon Little of Plano and Jeff Little and wife Haley of Frisco and their son and John’s great-grandson, Jake Harrington Little. The visitation for John will be from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday, April 6, 2015 at 1st Christian Church of Plano. The funeral services for John will take place at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, April 7, 2015 also at the church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243.
