John Derwood Hope's Obituary
John Derwood Hope, 81, of Farmersville, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. Derwood was born to John Gordon and Manie Ann Hope on October 21, 1929 in Richland, Texas. He married Allene Howell on February 18, 1951. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, three sisters, a daughter, Rebecca Gay, and a great-granddaughter, Hadley Grace Dahlberg. Derwood was a farmer in West Texas for 38 years. He was a Sergeant in the U. S. Army and served in the Korean War. He received a Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Combat Infantry Badge. After retiring from farming, Derwood was a quality control specialist for an equipment manufacturer and managed a horse ranch in Farmersville for four years. He was an active deacon and Sunday School teacher and was on the founding board of Park Drive Baptist Church in Levelland where he served for many years. Derwood is survived by his wife, Allene, of Farmersville, his children, John & Bette Hope of Levelland, Brenda and Richard Dahlberg of Plano, Cathy and Terry Buford of Plano, eight grandsons, and five great-granddaughters. He is also survived by his sisters, Genie Gatewood of Lubbock, and Dorothy Williams of Ohio, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive guests on Friday, July 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, July 16 at 11:30 at Restland with a memorial service at the Wildwood Chapel at Restland.
