John Francis Humphries' Obituary
Born April 5, 1943 St. Louis, Mo., John passed away August 28, 2017 from a head injury resulting from a fall. John was the second of four children born to John and Loretta Humphries. John attended Jesuit High School (Class of 61), the University of Notre Dame (Bachelor of Architecture) and earned his MBA from the University of Dallas.John taught three years at Bishop Lynch High School (math & humanities) before joining world-renowned architecture firm, HKS. John spent 33 years at HKS as a Principal, overseeing management of financial and legal issues. In retirement, John created and administered a scholarship program for Skyline High School students interested in architectural careers.John’s great passions were art, travel and people. He was known for his keen eye and discriminating taste. His life long love affair with Italy took him to Florence over thirty times. But his recent trip to Peru was his all-time favorite, he said.John was a man who cared deeply about his home, his neighborhood, his city, his country and the world.He was smart, curious, handsome, funny, shy, outgoing, easy-going and hard headed. He was fiscally conservative and socially liberal. He had opinions on every subject and was more than happy to share them. He was also open, warm and generous. He had many, many life-long, wonderful, loving, caring friends. He will be remembered by all of us lucky enough to have known him.John was preceded in death by his parents John & Loretta and his brother, Michael. John is survived by his sister Judy Sardello, brother Dennis Humphries and by nieces and nephews Karen Finch, Marc Sardello, Luke Sardello, Travis Humphries and Maggie Humphries.Visitation on Thursday, Aug 31 in Restland’s Memorial Chapel, 13005 Greenville Ave. A Memorial service will be held in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland on Friday, Sept. 1. At 10:00. Reception follows. Donations may be made to Jesuit College Prep Dallas.
