John Glenn King Jr's Obituary
John Glenn King, Jr., age 60, was the proud son of John Glenn King, Sr., and Barbara Jean King. He was born in Dallas, Texas on April 24, 1962 and passed away in a tragic accident on Thursday, June 2, 2022 in Carrollton, Texas. John was a lifelong resident of Dallas and attended SS Conner Elementary School, Gaston Junior High School, and graduated from Skyline High School in 1981.
John’s love of cars started at a very early age. His supercharged Chevy Silverado was a great source of pride for him. He spent countless hours at racetracks such as the Devil’s Bowl Speedway with his dad when he was young, and later in life with friends at other tracks around the metroplex. In his younger years he was a very successful remote control car racer. He spent his entire career in the automotive collision field, most recently working at Huffines Chevrolet in Plano where he leaves behind many friends. He was also an extremely talented “handyman” who spent countless hours over the last several years remodeling homes that he and his wife lived in.
John is preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Glenn King, Sr., Barbara Jean King and sweet aunt, Beverly Dickson and uncle Jim Jackson.
John is survived by his loving wife, Laureen “Laurie” King. Although John never had children of his own, he considered Laurie’s children and family his own and leaves behind Sophia “Soph” Harbour, Melissa Roberts, Andrew Rowley, Sarah Barnabei and husband Evan, grandchildren Annabelle Davis and Penny Barnabei, as well as In-laws Jerry and Linda Guenther and nephew Austin Guenther.
John is also survived by his dear sister, Karen Miller and husband James “Doug” Miller, nephew James Miller, aunts Billie Carr and Debbie Inman (Craig), cousins Jim Jackson, Misti DeBusk (Brian), Kelsey Jackson, Cindy Stone, Christie Barnes (Randy), Donna Johnson, Dee Ann Hudson (Chris), Stacy Kay Flinn (Cody). He leaves countless other family and friends to mourn his memory as well.
A wonderful, generous, and honest man who cared deeply for his loved ones, John was truly “one of the good ones.” He will be missed by so many.
The family will welcome friends and family to the Visitation at 1:00 pm on Sunday, June 12th in the main building at the Restland Funeral Home at 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75243, with the Funeral Service following at 2:00 pm. Please wear red to honor John, as this was his favorite color.
