John Kirkley's Obituary
John Kirkley of Dallas passed away on June 12, 2023 at the age of 96. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Marguerite. At age 83, he married the love of his life Lola, whom he was married to until her passing in 2021.
He was a 1948 graduate of North Texas State Teachers College (UNT), with a Bachelor of Science in physics and minors in mathematics and chemistry.
John retired early from CertainTeed after 38yrs of service; while working, he also taught Continuing Education courses in electronics and engine repair at Eastfield College.
As a lifelong learner, John greatly enjoyed working on cars, motorcycles, bicycles, and taking his ride of choice for a weekend adventure. He also found a new passion for restoring old clocks and enjoyed passing them along to family. John became an accomplished locksmith as well and was elected president of the Greater Dallas Locksmith Association by his peers in 1982.
John was best known for his devotion to the brotherhood of Masons for over 70 yrs. He served as a Master Mason in the A.C. Garrett lodge, where the Golden Trowel Award was bestowed upon him in 2000 for his exceptional service. He also held various offices within other Masonic bodies including Knights Templar, Scottish Rite and Order of the Eastern Star.
Lovingly known as Papa John, he is survived by a daughter-in-law, along with many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, nieces, and nephews. His family would like to thank the hospice staff of CC Young for their compassionate ministry to him. A private memorial service will be held.
