John Clayton Lathrop's Obituary
John Clayton Lathrop (“Jack”) passed peacefully from this earth in heaven on Friday, November 24, 2017.Jack was born on September 22, 1039 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Floyd and Frieda Lathrop. Jack and his 3 brothers, Floyd Jr., Jim and Tom were raised in Milwaukee, where they graduated from Custer High School. Jack attended college at the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated with a degree in Accounting. After working a year at A. O. Smith Company, Jack joined the Army and was stationed at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. During this time, he met the love of his life, Angela Gross from New Holstein, Wisconsin. Jack married Angela on August 11, 1956 and they raised 3 daughters, Diane, Sharon and Carol.Jack earned his Certificate of Public Accountancy and worked his entire professional career at Arthur Andersen & Company. Jack was admitted to the firm as an audit partner on July 1, 1967. He served in the Milwaukee office until 1981, then accepted a transfer to the St. Louis office, where he worked for 3 years. Jack’s last few years with the firm were spent in the Dallas office, where he retired in 1987.Following his retirement, Jack and Angela continued to make their home in Dallas. Together they enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, and spending time with friends and family. Jack kept active with tennis, golf, gardening and making furniture. He was a docent at the Dallas Museum of Art and loved reading to his grandson’s 4th and 5th grade class.Jack will be remembered for his wisdom, honesty, integrity and his love for the Lord and his family.Jack is survived by Angela, his lovely wife of 61 years, daughters; Diane, her husband Jim, Sharon, her husband Roger, Carol, her husband Rob; grandchildren, Ryan and Kellen, and great grandchildren Clayton and Miles. Jack is also survived by his brothers, Jim, and his wife Marlene and Tom, and his wife Jan.A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 7th, 2017 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
