John Paul Lewis' Obituary
John Paul Lewis passed away on Sunday, February 19, 2017 with family and friends by his side. He was 80 years old. John was born on May 24, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas to Allen Jefferson Lewis and Sarah Alice Bates. He had three older siblings: his half-brother Charles “Tex” Thornton, his sister Jeanetta Lewis, and his brother Jeff Lewis. All three of his siblings passed before him. John wed Ann Lorraine Skoda in 1960 in Washington DC, and they were married for 56 years, living in Washington DC, Lubbock, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and finally settling in Dallas. After completing high school in Oregon, John earned degrees from Texas Tech and from the Thunderbird School of Global Management. He started his career in commercial banking, first focusing on loans to international markets in Asia and South America, then later transitioned to Oil & Gas financing. After travelling around the world, John eventually formed his own private equity fund, which invested in a variety of manufacturing and service companies throughout the United States. Prior to his banking career, John served in the United States Air Force as part of the Strategic Air Command. He was an avid golfer, loved music, and actively supported numerous charities. John is survived by his wife Ann and his son Michael. Memorial services will be held at Restland Memorial Chapel on February 28, 2017 at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurses Association and their Meals on Wheels program. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
