John Walker Lindley Jr's Obituary
John Walker Lindley, Jr. died on March 26, 2023, at the age of 87 years old. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. John was born on January 25, 1936, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, the son of John Walker Lindley, Sr. and Clara Ruth Lindley. John graduated with a business degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1959 where he met the love of his life, Sandra Samuel. Sandra and John married on July 26, 1958, and moved to Dallas where John continued his career with Sears department store. John was a dedicated employee for Sears for 30 years and demonstrated a strong work-ethic and love for his company that promoted him to Dallas Region Merchandise Manager and later, Manager of the Arlington Store, upon his retirement.
In their younger years, John and Sandra happily traveled the country with their kids. Their family adventures took them on road trips from Dallas to California, Colorado, Wyoming, New York and Florida, to name a few. Later in life, John and Sandra explored Europe with friends. John had a love for sports and exercise. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing golf and tennis at Brookhaven Country Club. He was a devoted UT Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys fan. For many years, John and Sandra were members of First United Methodist Church of Carrollton and later members of Prestonwood Baptist Church. John and Sandra rarely missed a Sunday service and were committed and faithful Christians.
John had a very gregarious personality and never met a stranger. He was jokingly known as the “Mayor” of his residential neighborhood within the Stonebriar Community. John and Sandra became fully committed members of the Stonebriar Community where they were active participants in the book club, garden club, breakfast club and many other Stonebriar organizations. The people of Stonebriar held a special place in John’s heart.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sandra, his sister Mary Ann Anglin (Ben), his sister-in-law Suzanne Lindley, his daughter Lori Lindley (Ted Dameris), son Randall Lindley (Heather), grandchildren Keith Lindley (Megan), Kevin Lindley (Sabrina), Mack Jobe, Kate Lindley, and Ford Lindley, great-grandchildren, Logan, Ava, Liara, and Evan. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Billy Dan Lindley, of Sulphur Springs, Texas.
A memorial service for friends and family will be held on March 29, 2023. The family has planned a visitation at 2:00 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 2:30 p.m. These events will take place at Restland Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville, Ave, Dallas, Texas 75243. Family burial to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of John W. Lindley, Jr. to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation) or the American Cancer Society.
