John Charles Malamis' Obituary
John C. Malamis was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. He was a long-time resident of Plano, Texas. John passed away on April 16, 2011 of a brief illness. He was preceded in death by his parents Spiros and Olga Malamis. John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Joyce (McAbee), cherished daughter Marlo Malamis of Plano, Brother Nick, and Sister, Georgia Theophelis of Northville, Michigan plus many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. John was a graduate of the University of Detroit (a Jesuit college) and received a degree in Mathematics and Chemistry. His earliest career was as a chemist at Ford Motor Company. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War and was an exceedingly committed patriot. Those who knew John were aware of, and, and impressed by his love and vast knowledge of history and politics. John was a loving husband and father, devoted to family and friends. He generously used his talents and skills to help many people over the years. John moved his family to Plano, TX in 1978. He was a creative entrepreneur who shared his love for fine food by opening several restaurants in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. During this time, he also was the owner of a successful homebuilding and general contracting business. He won many awards for the quality and originality of his work. A brilliant and talented man, John’s greatest passion was building. John has returned Home to his Lord and Savior, but will always be in the hearts of so many who loved and adored him. Visitation is at Restland Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Friday April 22. Services will be held at the Restland Memorial Chapel on Saturday April 23 at 12:30 PM. A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Greek Isles Restaurant in Plano, TX immediately following Saturdays Service. A memorial has been established in honor of John Malamis.
