John Edward McAdam's Obituary
John Edward McAdam III, 82, of Dallas, Texas passed away on August 31, 2014 of natural causes after a long and vibrant life filled with the joy of family, friends and a luminous engineering career. John Edward was born in Fort Worth on November 22, 1932. He is preceded in death by his father, John Edward McAdam II of Baton Rouge, LA, his mother, Pauline Renegar of Fort Worth, TX, and his beloved grandson, Jackson Graham Hunter. After graduating from Amon Carter-Riverside High School in Fort Worth, TX in 1951, John attended Louisiana State University on a football scholarship as a defensive linebacker. He was later drafted into the U.S. Army where he served as a radio technician during the Korean War. Like so many of his generation, John returned from his tour of duty to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from East Texas State University. John later continued his graduate studies toward a master’s degree in business administration also from East Texas State. John’s career included engineering and management positions at Ltv Aerospace and Defense Company, Texas Instruments, E-Systems and Raytheon from where he ultimately retired in 1993. Throughout his career, John worked on significant assignments of national defense often taking him to the far corners of the earth, sacrificing once again precious family time for his love of country. John was an avid scuba diver, flint knapper and Ham radio operator. John was famous in his extended family for his knife making, fine carving of miniature hardwood ducks, bulls-eye aim in skeet shooting, and his black and white photography of urban buildings. John’s photographs are displayed in private homes from his beloved Texas to the faraway land of California. John is survived by the love of his life, his one and only Patsy, with whom he shared more than 56 years of a loving marriage and two beautiful children; his son Eddie (John Edward IV) and daughter-in-law, Lisa McAdam; his daughter, Marilyn and son-in-law, Andrew Hunter, and honorary children Susie and Gary Mayes. John was blessed with ten beautiful grandchildren, in order of age, Michelle, Emma, Anne-Marie, Jake, Noah, Nathan, Jackson, Abigail, Benjamin and Nicholas. An engineer by trade, John was capable of calculating how to send a space station into orbit, but he needed to count his grandkids ribs over and over again, making them squirm and giggle with delight. John will be sorely missed but never forgotten by his beloved wife Patsy, children and grandchildren, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church family, his co-workers, and all who knew and loved him. The visitation for John McAdam will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for John McAdam will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane, Dallas, TX 75230.
