John Thruston McCully's Obituary
John was born on March 24, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended public schools in San Antonio before quitting Tech High School in 1943 and enlisting in the Coast Guard. He served in World War II in the U S Coast Guard aboard a DE in the South Pacific Theater. Upon discharge he attended Trinity University graduating 1950. He attended South Texas Law School graduating in 1958. He practiced Law in Houston until moving to Dallas where he continued practice until his death. He was appointed Associate Municipal Judge in Dallas in 1991 and served in this capacity until 2013. He is survived by John Patrick McCully and wife, Christine of Cedar Park and Michael Shawn McCully of Dallas;5 grandsons and his brother, Daniel Donahue. A daughter, Joan Dee McCully died in 1995. He married the love of his life Myrna Ehlers McCully on January 10, 1948 in San Antonio and they observed their 66th Anniversary in 2014. She was in Arden Courts for treatment of Alzheimer’s where she died on May 7, 2014. John was a sober member of Alcoholics Anonymous finding sobriety in the program on July 9, 1969 and died sober August 30, 2016. Visitation will be 6-8PM, Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Restland Wildwood Chapel. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
