John McMann's Obituary
John McMann was born May 12, 1938 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. God in His grace took him home the afternoon of December 26, 2021.
Jack, as he liked to be called, was born with cerebral palsy in an era where there was no American Disability Act in place. He had a number of surgeries as a child because of cerebral palsy to help make his left limbs function better and made the most of his abilities. Jack loved baseball and boy could he hit with one arm. He also loved bowling, fishing, and basketball, and was highlighted on the news playing on his school basketball team.
He attended Cotting School for those with special needs. Cotting School was the first school in the United States established for children with disabilities. He was especially good with numbers. Jack knew all the family members’ birthdays, anniversaries, and the years they were born. Jack was employed by Goodwill Industry for 16 years.
Jack loved Jesus and truly walked in his calling of the gift of helps. He was diligent daily to accomplish all the Lord had in store each day. He supported his household walking to the grocery store to pick up milk or bananas, or whatever was needed, he rode his bike to the bank to take care of banking needs, he was in charge of the mail, house security, the lawn mowing, the leaf raking, making sure the coffee machine always had water, the trash, and acted as the pet guardian.
Jack loved technology and dreamed of the day of flying cars. He loved music, especially music from the 50’s, action and adventure movies, and Shiloh the family dog. He also loved the Cowboys, the daily weather report and Wheel of Fortune. He kept family and friends up to date on daily weather events and games schedules. He would often watch football games while conversing on the phone with other family members watching the same game in another state.
Jack was preceded in death my mother Isabel , father John, brother Jimmy, brother Frank, sister Isabel and is survived by his brother Robert and his sister Marie. The acronym BBJ best describes him as our Blessed Brother Jack. He was a beloved son, brother and friend.
