John Robert McMurrain Jr.'s Obituary
MCMURRAIN, JR., JOHN ROBERT Heaven received another Angel on May 15, 2012 when John McMurrain passed into Jesus’ awaiting arms, with his loving wife Judy by his side. Born John Robert McMurrain, Jr. on September 7, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to John and Tiny McMurrain, John was raised in Garland, Texas – a 1967 graduate of South Garland High School. After graduation, John entered the Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War as a Naval Medic with the Marine Corps. He attended Chiropractic College in both Texas and Indiana; drove a big-rig across the US into Mexico and back again and had a particular fondness for making impromptu stops in Garland to surprise his Mama on his way to or from Anywhere, USA. A man of many talents, no single vocation defined him. John lived his life to the fullest always. Whether boating on Lake Texoma where he was Commodore of the Yacht Club, riding his Harley with the Panther Creek HOGs to Sturgis or on the back roads of Texas or more recently, cruising the highways in his Corvette – John loved his big-boy toys! He could watch NASCAR for hours and wanted to stay current with whatever sport (Cowboys) happened to be in season. John was an avid fisherman, thanks to the teachings of his Granddad and he loved deep-sea fishing in the Gulf while at his Padre Island home. John and Judy shared a passion for gardening, cooking, creating and each other. Most important in his life, however, was his family. He found great joy in spending time with his grandchildren. Left behind to love him and cherish his memory are his wife of 18 years, Judy McMurrain and her son, Chance (Maryanne) Jolley and their children Madeleine, Mason and Chase – how Pappy loved his grandchildren. John’s daughter, Kami Scalf and his sisters, Margie (Don) Cass and Betsy McMurrain (Scott Tucker). His nephew, Todd (Angie) Theis and their son, Preston. His nieces, Christina and Kendra Rowe. John is predeceased by his parents John and Tiny McMurrain and very special friends, Travis and Cagney the Persian Cats and Suzy, the American Eskimo dog. And so very many friends from all walks of life, from all corners of this country – John never met a stranger. Services will be held Saturday, May 19, 2012 at 12:30pm at Restland Wildwood Chapel with interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park.
